AI Agent for Ecommerce: What It Takes Off Your Plate Daily

An AI agent for ecommerce adds products from photos and a price list, answers customers on WhatsApp from what your site says, and preps packing lists and stock alerts.

Monday, 7:30 AM · a made-up illustration

An AI agent for ecommerce starts the week before you do. 23 orders came in over the weekend. 14 messages were written to the store's WhatsApp, most of them "do you have it in a 39?" and "where is my order?". And in the folder, 12 new styles are waiting, photographed on Friday and still not in the store. Without help, that's a whole morning before you've packed a single package.

The morning can open differently: the products are waiting for approval, the customers already have an answer, and the packing list is ready.

In short

  • An AI agent for ecommerce is a digital assistant you tell what to do on WhatsApp, Telegram or email, and it works inside the store and in the files you connected it to.
  • In the catalog: you send it photos and a supplier's price list, and it prepares product pages with a name, price, description and category. It updates prices and stock, builds a category page or a sale page and swaps a banner.
  • With customers: it answers on WhatsApp about sizes, shipping, returns and "where is my order" from what your site says, recommends a product with a link, and hands an angry customer to you.
  • Behind the scenes: a packing list, checking a delivery against the supplier order, stock that's about to run out, stuck packages and abandoned carts. A new product, a price, a discount and a refund wait for your approval, unless you've set otherwise.

What does an AI agent for ecommerce do in a small store?

In a small online store you are four employees in one person: the one who adds products, the customer service rep, the warehouse worker and the marketer. The agent takes from each of the four the work that repeats itself.

You write to it as you would to an employee: "Here are the photos and the price list, add the products." It does that in the store's admin, and shows you before customers see anything. How an assistant like this connects to a business's software is explained in the article what is an AI agent.

It connects to the store you already have, on WooCommerce or Shopify. Exactly what can be set up in your store is checked on the intro call.

A week without an agent

Everything waits for a free evening.

  • Styles photographed two weeks ago still aren't in the store
  • Someone who asked about a size at night is answered in the morning
  • You find out mid-packing that a size is sold out
  • A package that never arrived surfaces only when the customer is angry

A week with an agent

It prepares, you approve.

  • New products saved as drafts, waiting for "publish"
  • Questions about size, shipping and orders were answered overnight
  • One packing list, organized by product
  • Packages that haven't moved in days, on a list

Adding products and answering customers: what does the agent do in the catalog and on WhatsApp?

These are the two jobs that take a store owner the most evenings, so they come first.

The catalog: from photos and a price list to product pages

You send the agent the photos and the supplier's price list as it is, an Excel file or a table in Google Sheets. You don't go into the store's admin.

  • New products. Matches each photo to its row in the price list, and prepares a name, price, description, sizes and category for each product. The products are saved as drafts: you see them, customers don't yet.
  • Product descriptions. Writes three sample descriptions, and the rest in the style you approved. About anything the price list doesn't say, like the type of fabric, it asks.
  • Prices and stock. When a new price list arrives it sends a list: what the price is today, and what it will be. It updates the store after you approve.
  • A category page and a sale page. Builds the page in the design of the rest of the site, sends a link to look at it, and adds it to the menu after approval.
  • A sale banner. Prepares a banner from your photos, and swaps the big image on the home page after you've seen how it looks on a phone and on a computer.

This is what its answer on the 12 styles from the opening looks like:

12 photos and one price list · what comes back to you

12 photos Price list Dark straight jeans Price: ₪289 (price list) Sizes: 36 to 44 Category: women's jeans Description: from supplier specs Draft · customers don't see it 9 Saved as drafts, to approve 2 No price listed · it asks you 1 Same item, other name · update?

An illustration. The products, the price and the numbers are made up.

The agent doesn't guess. A product with no price stays a draft until you answer, and a product that already exists in the store doesn't go up twice. All these cases, step by step, are on the page website and store management with an AI agent.

The customers: an answer on WhatsApp, from what your site says

The agent answers where customers already write to you. It reads the message, checks the stock, the orders and the store policy, and answers in plain language. This is how we start: in the first message it writes that it is the store's digital assistant.

Pick a customer's message, and see what the agent answers and what reaches you:

22:30 · A customer writes to the store's WhatsApp

Hi, do you have the dark jeans in a 38? And how do I exchange if they don't fit?

Hi, I'm the store's digital assistant. In dark, size 38 is sold out. In the same fit there is a 38 in light blue, and here is the link.

A size exchange is done through the "Exchanges and returns" page on the site. Would you like me to send that too?

Answered on its own · Stock and policy from the site · Two questions in one message

09:10 · A customer writes to the store's WhatsApp

Where is my order? I ordered on Monday

Checking right away. What's the order number? It appears in the confirmation email.

10482

The order went out yesterday with the courier. This is its tracking number, and the link shows where it is now.

Answered on its own · A delayed order goes to you with the details

13:40 · A customer writes to the store's WhatsApp

If you give me a discount I'll buy two right now

Thanks for writing. I'm checking the request with the store, and I'll get back to you with an answer.

Reaches you: a suggested reply for approval, with what the store policy says about discounts

08:05 · A customer writes to the store's WhatsApp

This is the third time I'm writing! The package hasn't arrived and nobody answers

I'm sorry about the wait. I'm passing this to the store owner right now, and she will get back to you today by 12:00.

Reaches you immediately: who the customer is, the order number, what's been written so far and the tracking number

An illustration. The messages and numbers are made up. You set the agent's wording.

In the same way it helps someone who can't decide: it asks a question or two, suggests up to three products from the store and sends a link. The customer does the buying and paying on the site.

What the site doesn't say, it doesn't make up. It writes "I'll check and get back to you" and passes the question to you. That's why an up-to-date shipping and returns page is the most important preparation before connecting it.

Before it answers a single customer, you see how it would have answered real conversations of yours. What can also be set up on Instagram, Facebook and email: AI customer service and sales agent.

What does a week in an online store look like with an agent?

Pick a day and see what was sent to the agent and what came back. This is an illustration of a possible week in a small clothing store, not a record of any particular store.

Monday, 07:30 · The weekend's orders

Good morning. 23 orders came in since Friday noon. 19 are ready to pack, and the packing list is organized by product and size.

Three need attention: gift wrapping, an address the customer asked to change, and a note saying "don't leave by the door." And one more: two orders for the black shirt in size M, and stock shows one.

✓ 19 to pack · ! 3 with a note · One decision: who gets the shirt

The first to order gets it. Prepare a message for the second offering the blue one or store credit.

Tuesday, 11:00 · A delivery arrived, and 12 new styles

Three boxes arrived. Here's the packing slip. The photos of the new styles and the price list are in the folder.

I compared it with the order you sent the supplier. 14 of 15 lines arrived, and six units of the dark jeans in size 38 are missing.

Of the 12 new styles, nine are saved in the store as drafts, with a name, price, description, sizes and category. Two have no price on the price list. And the gray sweater is already in the store as "gray wool sweater": update that one or add a new one?

9 drafts waiting for "publish" · 2 with no price · Stock update and message to the supplier ready

Update the stock and send it to the supplier. The sweater is the same product, update it. I'll go over the drafts tonight.

Wednesday, 09:00 · Who almost bought

Yesterday 11 carts were left open. Six stopped at the shipping screen, all of them below the free-shipping amount. Two had the gray coat in size S, which sold out on Monday.

And the dark jeans page had a lot of visitors this week, and two were sold. It has no size chart.

11 carts · 3 reminders ready as drafts · One product page to check

Send the three reminders, with no discount. For the jeans, prepare a size chart from the supplier's specs.

Thursday, 08:00 · What was written on WhatsApp overnight

Nine messages came in since you closed. I answered seven: sizes, shipping costs, and two "where is my order" questions. One customer is asking for a refund, and the suggested reply is waiting for you.

And one customer is angry: her package went out six days ago and hasn't arrived. I wrote to her that you'll get back to her by noon, and the tracking number is attached.

✓ 7 answered · One refund for approval · ! One customer waiting for you

I'm calling her now. I saw the reply on the refund, send it.

Friday, 16:00 · A weekend sale

I want a weekend sale on what isn't moving. What do we have?

Eight styles haven't sold in three weeks and have more than ten units each. Two have only the smallest and largest sizes left, so I took them off the list.

I prepared a 20% coupon on the other six, until Monday morning, a banner for the home page, text for the newsletter and a post for Instagram.

Coupon: not active yet · Banner, newsletter and post waiting for approval

15%, not 20%. Activate it, put up the banner and the post. I'll send the newsletter myself.

An illustration. The numbers, products and percentages in the example are made up.

What repeats across the five days: the agent checks, compares and prepares, and you decide in one line.

Which warehouse and shipping jobs can be handed to an agent?

After the catalog and the customers comes the warehouse. Four jobs that recur in every store selling physical products, and on each card: what triggers the agent, what it does and what stays with you.

Every morning: a packing list

  • Trigger: a time you set, or a message "what came in?".
  • Does: organizes the paid orders by product, size and color. An order with a note, with no address or with no stock goes to the top of the list.
  • With you: what to do about an order with no stock, and every message to a customer.

A delivery arrived: against what you ordered

  • Trigger: a photo of the packing slip, or the file from the supplier.
  • Does: compares it line by line with the order you sent, and prepares a stock update and a message to the supplier about what's missing.
  • With you: the stock update and the message. What you counted in the box overrides the packing slip.

Stock that's about to run out

  • Trigger: a regular check, for example twice a week.
  • Does: checks by SKU, size and color, and prepares an order for the supplier based on the sales pace and the lead time you gave it.
  • With you: the quantities, the price and sending it to the supplier.

Open packages and returns

  • Trigger: a daily check of what left the warehouse.
  • Does: gathers packages that haven't moved in the number of days you set, with the tracking number, and returns still waiting for a credit.
  • With you: contacting the courier, and the decision on a credit or an exchange.

Why by size and color and not by product name? A shirt can run out in black M and remain in blue XL, and in WooCommerce you can manage quantity and price for each such option separately (WooCommerce documentation).

How many hours a week go to the store's routine work?

Before deciding where to start, it's worth knowing where the time goes. Mark the jobs you do yourself today, and move each slider to your own estimate.

Hours a week on the store's routine work

2.5 h
3 h
3 h
3.5 h
2 h

12 hours a week

52 hours a month

This is the time this work takes you today, by your own estimate. An agent doesn't make it disappear: the packing, the photography and the decisions are still yours. The row with the biggest number is usually the place to start.

Abandoned carts, reviews and product pages: what does the agent bring you?

That leaves whoever almost bought. When you sort a week's carts by the screen where the customer stopped, you get a picture like this:

100 Added to cart 29 stopped here → 71 Entered details 13 stopped here → 58 Shipping 24 stopped here → 34 Payment 5 stopped here → 29 Ordered Paid orders Of 24 stopped at shipping: 17 under the free-shipping amount, 4 had a sold-out item
An illustration. The numbers are made up, and what you'll see depends on what your store keeps about carts that weren't completed.

With a list like this you ask "what's going on at our shipping screen," not "how do we win back customers who abandoned." Carts that stopped there point to the shipping cost, and a cart with a sold-out product is a stock matter. The agent writes what it found, and doesn't pretend to know why they didn't buy.

The same method works in three jobs. Which of them can be set up for you depends on what the store keeps, and is checked on the intro call.

The jobWhat the agent bringsWhat's subject to your approval
Abandoned carts, every morningWhat was in each cart, the amount and the screen where the customer stopped. A draft reminder for those you've determined may be contactedWho gets one, in what wording and whether an offer is attached
Reviews, a few days after deliveryA review request with the product name, leaving out orders with a return or a delay. A draft reply to every review that came inThe sending and the replies that get published. It does not delete or hide a review
Pages people visit and don't buy from, once a weekViews against sales for each product, and what can be seen on the page: one photo, no size chart, the common sizes sold outWhat gets fixed. Photography stays with you, and it prepares the text as on the page SEO with an AI agent

What else does the agent do for an online store?

Seven areas, and each has a page on our site with a full example. Two of them, the website and customer service, you've already read about above.

  • Text for every category page and a full description for every product, so that someone searching "dark jeans for women" lands on the right page in the store and not on the home page.
  • Beyond the products: design changes, fixing a bug like a coupon that doesn't work at checkout, and a regular check that the backup ran and the forms send.
  • Reminds you when the courier picks up, puts the meeting with the supplier in the calendar and gathers, in the morning, the emails waiting for your reply.
  • Answers when you're closed too. In the morning a summary is waiting for you: what it answered, what's waiting for approval and what was passed to you.
  • From the photos of a new style it prepares a post and a story with a link to the product, and posts them after you approve.
  • Checks every day that no ad leads to a sold-out product, and suggests what to pause. The budget changes only with your approval.
  • Connects the supplier's file, the warehouse and the store, so that a supplier's new price list reaches you as a list of changes to approve.

What stays with you: money, promises and customer details

Money. The agent doesn't move money and doesn't see card details. It prepares the refund request with all the details, and you return the money in the payment system.

Promises to a customer. What the site says, the agent answers on its own. Compensation for a lost package or a special discount is a commitment by the store, so those reach you for approval. An angry customer, and anyone who asks to speak to a person, is passed to you immediately. It's worth checking the wording of your store policy and marketing messages with a lawyer, and the agent works by the wording you approved.

Customer details. Before the agent gives a customer details about an order, you set how it verifies who it's talking to. It works on a separate cloud computer used only by your store, with its own user in every piece of software: AI agent security.

This is how we start · you decide what moves between the first two columns

The agent does on its own

  • Product pages as drafts, which only you see
  • An answer to a customer about stock, sizes, shipping and order status, from what the site says
  • A packing list and comparing a delivery with the order
  • A list of stuck packages, carts and pages that don't sell

Waits for your approval

  • Publishing a product, a page or a banner
  • A price or stock change, a coupon and a sale
  • A discount, a refund and a change to a customer's order
  • A supplier order, a cart reminder and a review request

Off-limits to the agent

  • Card details and the payment account
  • Moving money and refunding
  • An argument with an angry customer: passed to you
  • Deletion that can't be undone, and your password

An agent makes mistakes too, for example putting a product in the wrong category. That's why products wait for you before customers see them. Everything it did in the store is recorded, and before a big change there is a backup and a way back.

Which job is worth starting with? Mark and check

Three good starts: new products as drafts, answers to customers in the hours you're closed, or the morning's order summary. The list here checks the third. Mark what's already true for you. Your checkmarks aren't saved.

What's ready for a daily order summary?

0 of 5

If the stock in the store is far from what's on the shelf, the answer to the customer about size 38 will come out wrong too. Then you start by comparing a delivery with the order, which sorts out the stock along the way. And if only a few orders a week come in, you start with the catalog: products, photos and descriptions.

How we would start in a small store

With a job customers don't see. New products as drafts are one: the agent prepares three or four, you correct what isn't accurate, and only then does it get the rest. Even if it got something wrong, no customer saw it.

In customer service you start with the hours you're closed, read the conversations in the morning, and later add the daytime hours. A store that today pays a freelancer to add products, or someone to answer customers in the evening, can hand that work to an agent.

Bring one supplier price list, a few photos and the last twenty customer messages to the intro call, and together we go over what the agent would have prepared from them.

We connect the chain between the supplier, the warehouse and the store as part of business automation with an AI agent. You get the exact price in writing after the intro call, and you can work out a ballpark with the price calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI agent for ecommerce?

An AI agent for ecommerce is a digital assistant connected to the store, the suppliers' files and customers' messages. It adds products from photos and a price list, writes descriptions, updates prices and stock, and answers customers on WhatsApp from what the site says. It also prepares a packing list, a delivery check and a list of abandoned carts. You write to it on WhatsApp, Telegram or email, and what customers see in the store goes up after you approve.

Does the agent know how much is really left in the warehouse?

It knows what's recorded in the store and in the files you sent. An item that broke, was sold over the phone or was sent as an exchange without being recorded doesn't show up for it. That's why it shows when the stock was last updated, and you approve before anything changes.

Can it answer customers on its own?

Yes. About stock, sizes, shipping and order status it answers from what the site says. Requests for a discount or a refund reach you for approval, and an angry customer is passed to you immediately. It never asks for card details or an ID number. The details are on the page AI customer service and sales agent.

Is it worth starting with abandoned-cart messages?

With the list, yes; with an automatic message, no. The daily cart list shows where customers stop, and sends nothing to anyone. The reminder is a marketing message the store initiates, so you decide in advance who may be sent one and in what wording, preferably with a lawyer.

Does it put products up in the store without me seeing them?

No, until you decide otherwise. Every product is saved as a draft, and goes up in the store after you write "publish." Once you've approved several times in a row without correcting anything, you can decide that new products go up without asking, and one message takes you back to "ask first." A price and a sale come to you first.
